NEW LITERACIES AND INSTRUCTION

New Literacy
The meaning of literacy continues to change as technology continues ta advance. As educators, it is essential to give the students the best education needed by incorporating the new literacies to make learning worthwhile and relevant. The new forms of communication and technology are changing the way we read and learn. The 21st-century students are exposed to various communication tools. Literacy has moved from just the traditional reading, writing, and speaking methods to include other forms of media such as wikis, blogs, social net networking, and various apps. Literacy requires the ability not just to "read" but also to navigate the World Wide Web, locate information, evaluate it critically, synthesize it and communicate it-all skills that are becoming vital to success in this century's economy and workforce (Miners & Pascopella, 2013). As educators, it is our responsibility to expand our conception of literacy and use this development to improve teaching and learning by incorporating the new literacies into our classroom and preparing students for the social, cultural activities, and the workforce.
